When Google introduced a new TV overlay last year, she promised to bring a modern interface to Chromecast and then launch the device. It also causes a lot of confusion over what will happen to the Android TV operating system, which marks hundreds of streaming stick models, TV, and others. The older device did not get a new Google TV interface, but the company began launching several updates that made Android TV look more similar to the new layout, including a fresh display and discover tab. Today, Google added a new tool to Android TV to make it feel more like Google TV: Monitoring list, recommendation tuning and page details.
With this update, you can now add a title to your watchlist in the Android TV system, either by pressing a long time on your choice and pressing “Add to the monitor list” or pressing the Options watchlist in the Show Details page. You can also add to your list of your cellphone or laptop via Google Search or in the TV application. Your saved items will appear in a row on the Discover tab.
The company also tweaks the detail page of each show by adding an autoplay trailer when you dive deeper into each title, similar to how services like Netflix are set. You can turn it off in the settings (under the Home screen on the device preferences by disabling “Activate Video Preview”).
You will also find new ways to tell Google what shows you like (and hate) in the Home screen settings – Search for Content Preferences and scroll through the title that appears. In addition, there is a card on the Discover tab that says “Increase your recommendation” that will allow you to set your preferences too, and you can choose between “more like this” or “less like this” for each show. When done, the system will update its advice for you on the discover page.
Those who have used Chromecast with Google TV will find these familiar features, and those who have a longer Android TV device do not need to wait long to get it. Google says updates will arrive on the Android TV device “starting this week.”
